Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most about accounts, data, Pro, and what the app can and can't do yet.

General

What is Maker Inventory?

Maker Inventory is an app for tracking parts, components, and stock for makers, hobbyists, and small hardware teams — built for iOS and Android, with a Pro web dashboard for managing your inventory from a desktop too.

Does Maker Inventory work offline?

Yes. The app stores your inventory locally on your device, so you can add, edit, and search your stock without an internet connection. If you're a Pro subscriber with cloud sync enabled, changes sync to your other devices once you're back online.

What platforms is it available on?

iOS and Android, via the App Store and Google Play. Pro subscribers also get access to a browser-based dashboard.

Accounts & Data

What happens to my data if I downgrade from Pro?

Nothing is deleted. Your inventory stays on your device. Pro-only features — cross-device cloud sync, the web dashboard, shared/team workspaces, and bulk CSV/Excel import & export — become unavailable until you resubscribe, but everything you've already entered is right where you left it.

Is my data backed up?

On the Free plan, your inventory lives on your device only — there's no cloud backup, so keep that in mind if you're relying on a single phone. Pro subscribers get real-time cloud sync, so your data is backed up and recoverable if you switch devices.

Can I export my inventory?

Yes — Pro subscribers can export their full item inventory and their project lists from Settings → Import/Export. Bulk import (CSV or Excel) is also a Pro feature, for bringing in an existing parts list rather than entering items one by one.

Pro / Subscription

What do I get with Pro?

Cross-device cloud sync, access to the web dashboard, the ability to create shared/team workspaces and additional personal workspaces, and bulk CSV/Excel import & export. The Free plan covers full core functionality — adding, editing, and organizing items, locations, categories, and projects — for up to 25 items in your personal workspace.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through the App Store or Google Play billing (via RevenueCat) — you can cancel any time from your device's subscription settings, and access continues until the end of your current billing period.

Can I use Maker Inventory for a team, not just myself?

Yes. Pro subscribers can create a shared workspace and invite others to it by join code — items added inside a shared workspace don't count against the personal item limit. Joining a workspace someone else created is free, even if you're not a Pro subscriber yourself.

Features

Does it support barcode/QR scanning?

Barcode and QR scanning — including a live camera sweep mode for scanning several drawers or trays at once — is built and being tested now, coming in an upcoming update. See the roadmap for status.

Can I identify a component just by taking a photo?

Not yet — this is planned for a future release. See the roadmap.
